According to yonhap News agency, the Central Epidemic Prevention Headquarters of the Republic of Korea (ROK) announced on February 3 that as of midnight on February 3, there were 22,907 new novel coronavirus cases in the ROK compared with midnight on the previous day, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 907,214.25 new deaths were reported, totaling 6,812, with an average fatality rate of 0.75%.The number of daily new cases exceeded 20,000 for the second consecutive day, surpassing the short-term peak of 21,300 new cases in the middle of this month predicted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.The AGENCY had also predicted between 31,800 and 52,200 new cases per day at the end of the month, but that forecast is likely to fall short again given the faster than expected spread of the omicron variant.
